Make Your NBCC Application Fees Work For You
Once you understand the real costs of being a CE provider and have systems in place that don’t drain your budget, the next decision carries a lot of weight:
Which NBCC application path actually makes sense for you?
Many new CE providers overspend here, not because they choose the “wrong” option, but because they choose without a long-term strategy.
Here’s how I think about making application fees work for you.
Single Program Application
What it covers
Only one program, which may include multiple sessions
That program can be offered multiple times
Designed for a clearly defined, stand-alone live program
Limitations
Additional applications are required to expand beyond the one program
If you run a multi-session program, only one certificate is issued at the end
Primarily used for live delivery; not designed for scalable on-demand offerings
Best strategic uses
Conference presentations
Solidifying an audience by offering the same program repeatedly
A series offered across the year (with the trade-off of one certificate total)
💡 My take:
Single Program works best when you’re testing the waters, starting with one strong topic, or offering the same training repeatedly. It becomes expensive if you plan to submit multiple Single Program applications.
ACEP Application (Overview)
What it covers
The ability to offer multiple trainings
A longer-term framework for growing CE offerings
Designed for providers thinking beyond a single program
Limitations
More complex upfront
Often more than you need if you only plan to offer one program per year
💡 My take:
ACEP is a strategic investment. If you’re thinking in terms of a library of trainings rather than a single event, this path often makes more financial sense over time.
ACEP — Live Format
Best strategic uses
Offering multiple live training programs
Repeating live trainings year after year
Reducing costs compared to submitting multiple Single Program applications
💡 Cost strategy:
If the cost of one ACEP Live application is less than submitting several Single Program applications for different topics, ACEP Live is often the more cost-efficient option.
ACEP — On-Demand Format
This is where ACEP really shines for long-term value.
Best strategic uses
Offering the same topic in multiple formats (video, audio, text)
Turning live trainings into evergreen, on-demand offerings
Separating delivery from credentialing strategically:
Offering live trainings with certificates for contact hours (no CEs)
Then offering the on-demand version with CEs
Using ACEP for on-demand if you already offer live CEs through another accrediting body (e.g., APA)
💡 My take:
If you plan to teach once and reuse the material responsibly, ACEP On-Demand gives you the most mileage per dollar.
Best Overall Strategy (When It Fits)
For many providers, the most cost-effective long-term approach is to:
Offer a live training
Then convert it to on-demand under ACEP
This minimizes repeat application fees while maximizing the lifespan of your content.
